The mathematically exact halfway point is not always useful. A better stop is close to your route and has the services your group needs. Before committing, compare lodging or camping availability, fuel, food, parking, pet rules, check-in time, weather, and road conditions. RVs and trailers also need to confirm height, length, weight, propane, and road restrictions.

The tool uses a fastest-route estimate without live traffic. Weather, road work, border crossings, mountain roads, city congestion, and long breaks can change the real arrival time. Always verify the final route before leaving.
How are the overnight stops chosen?
The route is divided according to your daily driving-hour limit. The tool then names an approximate town near each stopping point. It is a planning shortcut, so confirm that your chosen hotel or campground is available and suitable.
How do the optional trip end date and time work?
They create an arrival window, not extra driving days. The planner uses only the driving days the route needs, shows your estimated arrival, and warns when the requested deadline is too early. Any remaining days stay available for rest, sightseeing, or a longer stop.
Why does the planner ask me to confirm both locations?
Many cities, parks, and landmarks share the same name. Selecting the result that includes the correct state, province, and country prevents a valid route from being calculated for the wrong place.
Can I use this planner for an RV or travel trailer?
Yes, you can create and share a daily plan for an RV, campervan, or trailer. However, the route does not check vehicle height, weight, length, propane restrictions, steep grades, or RV-safe roads. Verify every leg with an RV-specific navigation source.
Can I open the plan in Google Maps on my phone?
Yes. Use the Google Maps button for the whole trip or open each day separately. Long trips with more than three overnight stops are provided as daily links because mobile Google Maps limits the number of waypoints in one URL.
Does the planner find hotels, campgrounds, or free camping?
Each overnight stop includes one-tap Google Maps searches for hotels, campgrounds, free camping, fuel, and food nearby. Availability, prices, access rules, and legality can change, so check directly with the property or land manager.
Does the planner check weather and wildfires along the route?
Yes. It checks the forecast at each planned overnight area and looks for active wildfire records near the mapped route. These feeds can be delayed or temporarily unavailable, so always confirm official alerts, evacuation notices, smoke, highway closures, and local conditions before driving.
How are fuel stops estimated?
The planner estimates a practical range using your MPG and tank size, while keeping a 25% reserve. If you leave those fields blank, it uses a general estimate for your selected vehicle type. It cannot see your actual fuel gauge, current fuel prices, station hours, or fuel availability.
Are meal, rest, and viewpoint stops included in the arrival time?
Yes. Suggested breaks include an estimated stop duration plus an off-route allowance. The result shows wheel time separately from the more realistic door-to-door travel estimate.
Can the planner add sightseeing days instead of only overnight stops?
Yes. Choose “Drive + sightseeing stops” to add shorter discoveries during driving days, or “Slow trip with full sightseeing days” to insert dedicated exploration days and a second night near selected stops. You can prioritize national parks, state parks, hiking, mountains, or interesting towns.
How are the fastest and scenic route options compared?
The planner calculates the real road distance and estimated wheel time for each route, then shows the added time, added miles, main road corridor, and a scenery score before you choose. A scenic route is built around a credible park, scenic byway, mountain, or coastal waypoint—not by simply changing the label on the fastest route.
How does the recommended route work?
The recommendation follows the priority you choose: fastest, balanced, maximum scenery, RV preference, or pet preference. It considers calculated wheel time, added time, distance, and named scenic waypoints. It is guidance rather than a safety certification.
Why do some trips show fewer than three route options?
Not every journey has a useful alternative. The planner filters out duplicate routes, tiny variations, and extreme detours. When it cannot find a credible scenic choice, it shows the reliable fastest route rather than inventing a misleading option.
Are the sightseeing places guaranteed to be open or suitable?
No. They are route-based discovery ideas from map data. Always check the real detour, opening hours, seasonal access, reservations, permits, trail difficulty, pet rules, road conditions, and weather before adding one to your trip.
Can I save the itinerary to Notes or Google Keep?
Yes. “Share to phone / apps” opens your device’s share sheet when supported, so you can send the plan to Notes, Keep, messages, email, or another installed app. You can also copy or download the plan.
